The concrete actions to be implemented within companies are:
Take action to preserve water quality and reserves in France.
Ensure service or provide quality products for customers in all circumstances, particularly in the event of water use restrictions or shortages.
Reducing drinking water consumption in the short and medium term as much as possible (e.g. 5 to 10%) at the site(s) with the highest consumption.
-
Implement water conservation and circular economy measures.
Eliminate leaks in water networks, simplify and streamline the design of these networks to meet current and future needs and take advantage of current techniques.
Consume only what is necessary – in terms of both quantity and quality – for production or maintenance, in complete safety, e.g. use grey water, industrial water and rainwater.
Innovate to develop techniques and behaviours that promote frugal water use by employees and service providers
Examples: flow meters, filling and/or washing gallows, high-pressure cleaners, ATLANTIK® mobile washing station with water recycling.
-
Prepare for periods of water shortage
Ensure access to drinking water for employees and customers.
Ensure fire safety.
Identify essential water uses for production or operations
Define business continuity plans in the event of severe restrictions or even total interruption of water supply (drought)
-
Reduce the physical impact on the natural environment
Design and maintain facilities (premises, engineering structures) with a view to ensuring free water flow,
Collect rainwater and store it in suitable containers (flexible or rigid tanks) for specific uses (washing, toilets, watering with a device such as the Atlantik® )
Promote the infiltration of runoff water and the recharge of groundwater (unless contraindicated by regulations or technically unfeasible).
Limit the effects of disruption to the water cycle by relying on ecosystems (“nature-based solutions”).
Preserve aquatic and wetland environments in the context of production, maintenance, projects, etc. (ground protection tarpaulin or tubes (with vehicle passage) – without earthworks (avoids soil concreting): for retention and collection of effluents from washing equipment, vehicles, engines, etc. with the Atlantik® module)
-
Controlling impacts on water resource quality
Characterise discharges, control their quality and treat any non-conformities that arise (hydrocarbon separator, dehydration of phytopharmaceutical effluents by forced ventilation (Phytogest®), UV filtration, reverse osmosis, ozonisation)
Control situations that pose a risk of water pollution generated by activities and works, either directly or by service providers (ground protection tarpaulin or booms (with vehicle passage) – without earthworks: for retention and limitation of pollution (hydrocarbons, greases, pesticides, insecticides, detergents, oxalic acid, anti-tar, etc.))
Accelerate the deployment of solutions that complement the use of synthetic plant protection products, whenever possible (plant protection mixtures (obtained with a mixer, manage washing effluents with an environmentally friendly system (Phytogest®))
